			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Men&#8217;s Anti-violence Network (MAN) is an organization made up of business leaders who support the creation of public awareness education programs that focus on prevention and target the abuser.  MAN members speak to a wide range of corporate and community audiences about domestic violence and its economic impact on our community.  MAN supports small and medium businesses with the “Employers Against Domestic Violence Program.”   MAN members advocate on behalf of women and girls on government policies and legislation.</p>

<p><em>Phoenix, AZ</em> &#8212; The Arizona Foundation for Women (AFW) is a nonprofit, philanthropic organization dedicated to investing in and promoting innovative solutions that address the unmet needs of women and children throughout the state of Arizona. <strong>AFW works to assure the <span style="text-decoration: underline;">S</span>afety, <span style="text-decoration: underline;">H</span>ealth, and <span style="text-decoration: underline;">E</span>conomic security of every Arizona woman through public awareness, grant making and research. We believe SHE Counts!</strong></p>

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Susan Smith &#8211; Chair</span></strong><strong> </strong></p>
<p>Susan Smith is the Director of IT Business Service Management at Salt River Project (SRP).  She leads the Business Process Management, IT Solution Architecture, IT Service Management and IT Work management teams providing business-aligned IT services. With over 25 years of experience in the utility industry providing leadership in both technology and business areas, she remains focused on addressing corporate challenges in today’s economy.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Prior to joining SRP in 1998, Susan held professional, managerial, and executive positions with Computer Language Research, Inc., Price Waterhouse Tax Technology Group, and Central Maine Power.  She holds a B.S. in Business Administration/Accounting from the University of Maine.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>As a board member of Arizona Foundation for Women since 2010, Susan is passionate about the challenges facing women and children in Arizona.  Since January 2011, she has held the position of chair-elect. She also chairs the Nominating Committee and serves on the Finance Committee.  Prior to moving to Arizona, she was actively involved with multiple groups serving people with developmental disabilities and their families.  Susan’s passion for changing the lives of people with development disabilities in Maine led her to be the governor appointed Vice Chair of the Maine Developmental Disabilities Council for several years.  She also served on committees for the University of Maine Center for Community Inclusion, Autism Society of Maine and other groups.</p>

<p><strong></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Kendis Muscheid &#8211; Secretary</span></strong></p>
<p>An expert in the areas of non-profit and tax-exempt organizations, charitable trusts and state and local taxations at the law firm of Fennemore Craig, P.C., Kendis brings a wide variety of skills to AFW.  Most notably, she has given cogent legal advice to the Foundation for years, as well as the benefit of her non-profit experience and expertise.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Paula Adkins &#8211; Treasurer</span></strong><strong></strong></p>
<p>Paula is a Volunteer Coordinator at <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/company/1117043?goback=%2Efps_PBCK_*1_Paula_Adkins_*1_*1_*1_*1_*2_*1_Y_*1_*1_*1_false_1_R_*1_*51_*1_*51_true_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2&amp;trk=pro_other_cmpy">Tumbleweed Center for Youth Development</a>; retired from a career in Strategic Planning and Marketing at General Dynamics C4 Systems. Paula has a long history of service to the Foundation as a board member and volunteer CFO.</p>

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Jackie Thompson &#8211; Vice Chair (Chair Elect)</span></strong></p>
<p>Jackie is the Community Affairs Manager for Southwest Airlines in AZ, NV, NM, and El Paso, Texas.  She has over twenty years experience in marketing and more than ten years experience in military affairs.  Jackie has held several leadership positions on boards in several states, as well as the AFW Board, and focuses especially on public awareness and advocacy.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Sandi Perez, PhD &#8211; Vice Chair (Past Chair</span></strong><strong>)</strong></p>
<p>Dr. Perez is currently the Vice President of Philanthropy and Community Relations at Delta Dental of Arizona. Prior to her tenure with Delta, Dr. Perez occupied leadership positions at Social Venture Partners of Arizona, Southwest Autism and Resource Center, the BHHS Legacy Foundation and the Arizona Community Foundation. Dr. Perez has served on the AFW Board of Directors for the last three years and has been instrumental in developing the Foundation’s grants process, research, and public policy work.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Pam Del Duca &#8211; Board Member</span></strong></p>
<p>Pam is the founder and past President and CEO of DELSTAR Companies, Inc. A graduate of Arizona State University, she serves on the Arizona State University Foundation, Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation and is a Heard Museum Trustee. She’s an active member of Greater Phoenix Leadership and the World President’s Organization. In 2004, Pam was named “Woman of the Year” by the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.</p>

MAN’s focus is on prevention and accountability for the abusers.</span></p>

In Arizona, every 5 minutes there is a call made to the police for domestic violence generating nearly 50,000 police reports each year.  Every year more than 12,000 children witness domestic violence acts in their home.  40% of Valley teens have been affected by dating violence.</span></p>

<p>Televerde is built upon the foundation that learning and education are the great equalizer. We believe that no matter where you started, with a thirst for knowledge, you can climb higher. The mission of the Televerde Endowment for New Scholars (TENS) is to empower women who are re-entering society to realize their life goals through higher education.</p>
<p>The TENS program has been created in partnership with the Arizona Foundation for Women (AFW) to provide scholarships to accredited educational opportunities for our correctional facility alumnae upon their release. This 501(c)(3) program was created to assist women in transition achieve their educational goals while striving for improved quality of life. <h2 style="text-align: center;" align="left">to 18 Valley Non-Profits</h2>
<p align="left">PHOENIX, AZ – Jodi Liggett, Chief Executive Officer of the <strong>Arizona Foundation for Women </strong>(AFW), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that invests in and promotes innovative solutions to fulfill the unmet needs of Arizona’s women and children, proudly announced today that 18 Valley organizations will receive $278,500 to carry out the mission of the organization. “We are absolutely thrilled to be able to contribute such a substantial amount in these difficult economic times to help these worthy organizations carry out their important work,” said Liggett.</p>
<p align="left">There are a number of separate funds managed by the <strong>Arizona Foundation for Women</strong> that provided the grants this year. The <strong>Deborah G. Carstens Grant Fund</strong> and the <strong>AFW General Grant Fund</strong> support organizations that motivate and empower women and girls to take responsibility for their economic lives by developing skills, building self-esteem and identifying challenges that impede their success. The following organizations were awarded grants:</p>

<p align="left">In addition, the <strong>Kids Are Not for Sale in Arizona Grant Fund</strong> was created in response to the fact that the State of Arizona is the second “worst” state in the nation with respect to human trafficking, particularly the sexual trafficking of young girls. Arizona is a source, destination, and transit state for human traffickers, who’s “business” thrives in the cities, rural areas, and along interstate highways in Arizona. This fund supports efforts to end child prostitution in Arizona and help sex trafficking victims, was awarded to six groups that have programs that support this mission.</p>

<p align="left">The <strong>Arizona Foundation for Women</strong> has made a $50,000 donation to the Parachute Fund, which is a program run by the Diane Halle Center for Family Justice at Arizona State University to provide critical emergency funds to victims of domestic violence.  These funds directly assist in providing food, shelter, medical and legal assistance to women and children in immediate crisis.</p>

<p>On April 30<sup>th</sup>, the Arizona Foundation for Women will host the 16th Annual Sandra Day O’Connor Awards Luncheon at the Arizona Biltmore. The luncheon is a significant occasion for people across Arizona to pay tribute to women who make a difference in our community and our nation. Past Sandra Day O’Connor Award recipients include <strong>Madeleine Albright, Laura Bush, Elizabeth Dole, Marian Wright Edelman, Erin Brockovich, Sally Ride, Barbara Bush and Billie Jean King.</strong> This year hundreds of supporters will come together to recognize three women who have made significant personal and professional efforts to positively impact the lives of women and children.</p>
<p>The 2012 Sandra Day O’Connor Lifetime Achievement Award honoree, is acclaimed leadership expert <strong>Frances Hesselbein</strong>. She has been a role model for generations of women and girls, as founding president of the Leader to Leader Institute and CEO of Girl Scouts USA.</p>
<p>AFW’s Annual Voice of Women Award will be presented to <strong>Barbara Barrett</strong>, president and CEO of Triple Creek Guest Ranch in Montana and recently served as a senior adviser to the U.S. Mission at the United Nations. She also is a member of the U.S.-Afghan Women&#8217;s Council and is active in Project Artemis, a training, development and mentorship program for Afghan women entrepreneurs operated by the Thunderbird School of Global Management. In addition, she has served as deputy administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration and as vice chairwoman of the U.S. Civil Aeronautics Board.</p>
<p>The 2012 recipient of the Marilyn R. Seymann Award is local leader, <strong>Tamara Woodbury</strong>, who has more than 25 years of management experience in nonprofit organizations and is currently the Executive Director of Girls Scouts, Arizona Cactus-Pine Council, Inc., one of the largest Girl Scout councils in the country. The Arizona Cactus-Pine Council has been recognized nationally and locally for its innovative programs and business practices<strong>.</strong></p>
