On April 30th, the Arizona Foundation for Women will host the 16th Annual Sandra Day O’Connor Awards Luncheon at the Arizona Biltmore. The luncheon is a significant occasion for people across Arizona to pay tribute to women who make a difference in our community and our nation. Past Sandra Day O’Connor Award recipients include Madeleine Albright, Laura Bush, Elizabeth Dole, Marian Wright Edelman, Erin Brockovich, Sally Ride, Barbara Bush and Billie Jean King. This year hundreds of supporters will come together to recognize three women who have made significant personal and professional efforts to positively impact the lives of women and children.
The 2012 Sandra Day O’Connor Lifetime Achievement Award honoree, is acclaimed leadership expert Frances Hesselbein. She has been a role model for generations of women and girls, as founding president of the Leader to Leader Institute and CEO of Girl Scouts USA.
AFW’s Annual Voice of Women Award will be presented to Barbara Barrett, president and CEO of Triple Creek Guest Ranch in Montana and recently served as a senior adviser to the U.S. Mission at the United Nations. She also is a member of the U.S.-Afghan Women’s Council and is active in Project Artemis, a training, development and mentorship program for Afghan women entrepreneurs operated by the Thunderbird School of Global Management. In addition, she has served as deputy administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration and as vice chairwoman of the U.S. Civil Aeronautics Board.
The 2012 recipient of the Marilyn R. Seymann Award is local leader, Tamara Woodbury, who has more than 25 years of management experience in nonprofit organizations and is currently the Executive Director of Girls Scouts, Arizona Cactus-Pine Council, Inc., one of the largest Girl Scout councils in the country. The Arizona Cactus-Pine Council has been recognized nationally and locally for its innovative programs and business practices.
